Something Old – Grandma’s Rings

This photo may not be the most beautiful, but it’s the most meaningful to me. Here are my grandma’s wedding rings, circa 1948, set on my old Nancy Drew book with the homemade sewing center my granddad made me in the background. All of these items are placed on my 1920’s library table. A match made in “old” heaven? I think so.

I had difficulties taking this picture. The native camera app on the iPhone wasn’t able to do a fine macro mode that the rings required. While you may not be able to notice, my grandma’s rings are a mere speck of a diamond, and I was trying to capture the antique-style attention to detail in the gold. These rings are quite thin after seeing decades of use, which made them even more fragile. I then moved on to the Camera360 app, which I’ve mentioned in several posts. So far this app seems to have the best macro mode for finer details. I then imported the picture into iPhoto and simply cropped the image.
